During gigs it’s hard to tell if people are random drunks ignoring my performance or they are people resonating with what I’m doing. I have to avoid reading too much into body language or facial expressions. I decided a long time ago to just treat everyone in the crowd like they matter because you never know who’s in the crowd.
Last Friday, I was playing a 3 hour set at Griffin Tavern in Flint Hill, Virginia. This is a great joint off the beaten path in the shadow of the majestic Shenandoah mountains. There were a handful of people during my opening set eating meals and enjoying the music. But once I got back behind the mic after my break I realized I was only playing to the bartender and staff...
Here’s a clip of me daring to loop vocals live. I’ve hesitated to loop my vocals (even though I’ve been doing live looping for the past year) because of all the feedback possibilities. I finally figured out some of the main culprits of the feedback and gave my audience at Paddy’s in Stafford, VA a taste of what I’ve been working on. Hope to see you at the next show!
This Tuesday @ 6PM I’ll be performing at The Georgetown Professionals Happy Hour held at the Ritz-Carlton Urban Gardens in Washington, DC.
This group does a monthly event and previously I performed at a venue where they were also meeting. I got to meet one of their organizers after my performance and was asked to play at one of their upcoming events – so here it is! Here’s a chance to catch me performing in DC and connect with other professionals in the area.
The Georgetown Professional Happy Hour group is dedicated to connecting professionals working in the Georgetown/DC area. Firms currently associated with this event include:
Foley & Lardner LLP; Carlton Fields Jorden Burt LLC Shalom Baranes and Associates; HOK; Jamestown LP; EastBanc; R2L; Fox Architects; Robert Silman Associate...
I’ve decided that for the time being, I’m not going to have one person act as my booking agent. I’m going to look at it a little bit like crowd funding – I want it to be available to everyone. You could be my booking agent!
Performing live with Upstanding Youth
For now, if you find me a paid gig, I confirm it, and I get paid for it, you get 20% of the overall take. That means even if you don’t live in my area of Northern Virginia you can still book me gigs and earn some money! Here are some of the details to help you get going.
I’m willing to drive approximately 1hr from Stafford, VA.
I’ll consider going further for a gig with a guaranteed good crowd (exposure) or good pay.
I can play up to 3 hrs by myself with a combination of original and cover songs.
Sign Up and Show Up For My Live Show & Prizes This Week!
I’m doing my 4th and final live streaming show this coming Thursday, see details below for time and place. The three previous streaming shows have gone so well and I’ve loved sharing my music with so many people.
For this weeks show I’ve got a few twists planned. First, I’m going to add a very small and private live audience to the show. I’m going to try and pack my living room with close friends to enjoy this last show. I’ve also asked a student of mine, Bri Biorn, to join me and play a few songs to start the night as well.
Here’s the big surprise for this weeks show, the prize this week is the entire catalog of music that I’ve recorded with my band Upstanding Youth!! That’s well over 40 songs at a value of over $40 FOR F...
I’ve planned a great show for this week! With so many new subscribers to my blog I’m excited for so many new people to have a hand in choosing the songs I play this week. I noticed a few things from these last two online shows that I want to focus on and I have a new prize in mind for this week.
During the last shows people had some great questions about music writing and performing and this really got me thinking. I realized I have a lot of great stories and experiences to share on the subject so I want to make Q&A a bigger part of these shows, almost like a podcast...
