Have you ever struggled to do something creative? Have you created something amazing and ever wondered if you could do it again? How much of what we create is purely a result of our own effort and abilities or is creativity somehow inspired from some elusive source? Here’s some inspiration for your elusive creative genius.
Elizabeth Gilbert wrote Eat, Pray, Love and it became ridiculously popular. She discusses the struggle great creative minds have maintaining their sanity and control over the creative process. She reaches back in time to a mechanism used by the Greeks and Romans. This mechanism helps maneuver the creative process without putting so much of the blame/credit/responsibility on the artist. It’s an amazing speech that offers an inspiring and liberating approach. Everyone should be able to relate to some degree. Hope this sparks some ideas in you.
Hi Marc!
I watched this a week or so ago and wanted to thank you for posting it. I really enjoy your blog and your thoughts! Especially since I have been re-kindling, or breathing life into my coals again too with teaching the fine arts and getting back into my own music.
I meant to comment, but every time I sat down to I was bombarded by the kids. 🙂 such is life right now. and that is good too. 🙂
I loved what she said about the words flowing into the poet and writing them down backwards sometimes or even losing them completely if not written down fast enough…I can relate to this!!!
I also agree with what she says about being ready to be an instrument for greatness so whenever the time is right, you can be.
